Sitting at the heart of the city of Siena is the Piazza del Campo Square which has become famous for its shell shape and is very much still the focus of so much of the city's life. Located within the square is the Fonte Gaia, this is a fountain which is quite unique due to its shape and design, it has a quadrangular shape and beautifully sculptured figures around the edges of it.

Siena's cathedral is an awesome sight to behold with its white and dark green facade and its stunning marble flooring.

There are numerous museums and art galleries throughout the city, one of the most fascinating is the Santa Maria della Scala Complesso as prior to this becoming a museum it was actually a hospital. The establishment used to offer hospitality to pilgrims and also cared for the homeless and the poor people.

For peace and quiet head for the Orto Botanico. These botanical gardens were founded in the year 1784 and cover 2½ hectares of beautiful valley. There are several local plants, cacti and fruit bearing plants to observe. The greenery of the gardens makes a refreshing change from the city streets.
